We Are At War

We have made a game of war. It is a theme that is pervasive in movies, sports terminology, video games, and even cultural disagreements. Conflict and consequences are trivialized so often that unless a missile directly strikes your home, it is confined to an event that is imagined or distant. Despite the TV mentality that is pervasive throughout our societies — war and all its consequences are everywhere and real.

The labor shortage is not getting any better. A new car comes with a long wait and a hefty price. Natural gas and energy supplies are being pushed to their limit, causing prices to skyrocket. Even water is being rationed, conserved, and fought over in many places. A woman’s body in the United States is controlled by the 30 percent of men who believe they are kings.

All of these events signify a nation, and our world, at war. This battle is being fought on levels that are incomparable to all known and recorded battles. We are at war with the environment, famine, production, mineral rights, migration, and an actual war in Ukraine.

For at least 40 percent of us, the sacrifice required is an inconvenience that gets magnified through a white-hot political lens to foster blame. Being asked to give up your plastic water bottle in favor of a degradable cup is a liberal…
